Water-sprite with mermaids
“The Water Spirit with Mermaids” is a monumental wooden sculpture carved from a single tree trunk. The masterful treatment of the natural form allows the fantastic images to be “released” from the wood: the mythological water spirit and mermaids, as if born from the very substance of the tree. An abundance of decorative details and symbols (a heart, scales, female figures) transforms the work into a synthesis of folk mythology and contemporary plastic expression. The height and massiveness of the sculpture give it a sacred resonance, while the material — natural wood — emphasizes its connection with the elemental forces of nature
