The Castle of Neglitsa
The painting “Castle in Neglica” is executed in the tradition of realistic landscape with an architectural motif. The composition centers around a massive medieval castle with towers and crenellated walls rising on a hill. The artist employs rich tones to emphasize the austerity and monumentality of the structure.
The sky is covered with heavy clouds, creating an atmosphere of drama and underscoring the historical character of the castle. In the foreground, a path and several human figures enhance the sense of the building’s scale. The reddish foliage of the trees and the deep shadows contrast with the cold stone masonry of the walls.
