Choosing an all-in-one printer — scanner, copier and printer combined.
Choosing an MFP — All-in-One Printer
Modern multifunction devices contain the full set of tools without which work in a contemporary office is impossible: a printer, scanner, copier, and fax. In addition, recently models have appeared that can connect to the Internet and process e-mail. In other words, the operating principle of such printers does not differ from earlier models; they have simply become much more compact and functional by combining several devices in a single unit.
In the past, a large part of the room housing the office was allocated to equipment, so employees had to organize their workspaces in a small area. Clearly, this situation did not contribute to increased productivity. Now, with the advent of MFPs, the situation has improved. Besides, it has become possible to save on consumables, since cartridges need to be purchased for fewer devices.
It would seem that printers combining many functions should completely replace standalone scanners and copiers, but that is not always the case. The main reason slowing the widespread adoption of MFPs is that quite often situations arise where one employee needs to make a photocopy while another, for example, needs to print a contract. As a result, a queue gradually forms at the printer, slowing down the work process. This situation can lead to discord within the team, escalating tensions and creating a negative atmosphere. In addition, if the printer runs out of ink and cartridge refilling is required, the device becomes completely inoperative for that time.
From all of the above it follows that, despite numerous advantages, all-in-one printers are not ideal. Certainly, using an MFP achieves significant workspace savings; furthermore, expenses for purchasing equipment and consumables are reduced, especially since today the sale of cartridges for such equipment and the provision of servicing are considerably cheaper for owners. However, the inability to perform several operations simultaneously practically negates all the good qualities. The all-in-one printer is an optimal choice for offices with a small number of employees.
