Autumn sadness
“Autumn Sadness” is a landscape built on the combination of the earthy richness of autumn and the cold tones of the sky. In the foreground, the artist uses broad, energetic strokes to depict ruts, wet ground, and traces of recent rains. In the distance rise haystacks — dark silhouettes against the brightening horizon. On the left, vivid trees with orange-yellow foliage appear as the last reflection of departing warmth. The painting is filled with contrast: the lively colors of the earth and leaves are opposed to the cold, greenish-blue expanse of the sky. The mood is melancholic, permeated with silence and contemplation of the change of seasons and the passage of life
