What to consider when buying a sliding wardrobe — tips and nuances.

Useful Tips for Buying a Sliding Wardrobe

Very often purchases are made in a hurry and, as a rule, this leads to less-than-ideal results — the purchased item either remains unused or quickly breaks or becomes damaged. A large piece of furniture like a sliding wardrobe should also be chosen after familiarizing yourself with some useful tips.

1. Sliding wardrobes are usually produced by companies that make custom furniture. It is best to turn to one of these firms rather than buy a ready-made sliding wardrobe. This is easy to explain — ready-made wardrobes, unlike custom ones, have standard sizes and a fixed configuration. In addition, store-bought sliding wardrobes are freestanding constructions, whereas people usually order built-in sliding wardrobes. This greatly reduces the furniture cost, since less material and less time are required to make a built-in sliding wardrobe.

2. Before placing an order for a sliding wardrobe, invite a measurer or designer who will not only determine the ideal location for the wardrobe but also carefully measure the area where the wardrobe will later stand.

3. Decide on the interior layout of the sliding wardrobe: the number of sections, shelves, and hanging rails. Specify the desired height and width (depth) of the wardrobe, its length.

4. If you plan to put the sliding wardrobe in the living room and want to make it both a place for storing items and a wall unit for books/video-audio equipment, then you should choose combined multi-section sliding wardrobes that, along with solid doors, have transparent or semi-transparent panels made of plastic or glass.

5. The choice of materials from which the sliding wardrobe will be made is determined solely by the customer's personal preferences and financial means. However, remember that MDF is a more durable and safer material than particle board (chipboard). A veneered finish will provide the wardrobe's exterior with reliable protection against minor mechanical damage, whereas a laminated film may wear out more quickly with careless handling.

6. The wardrobe design varies significantly depending on the purpose of the room in which you plan to place it. If you want to equip the bedroom with a sliding wardrobe, choose furniture models with solid doors and carefully check the quietness of the doors' movement. Mirrors or veneer are most often used for finishing. For living rooms, on the contrary, mirrored sliding wardrobes are not suitable, but wardrobes with glass inserts and models on an aluminum frame with a polymer fill look excellent. In an office or library you can place a small sliding wardrobe with combined doors — glass and solid. For the hallway, choose a sliding wardrobe made of a durable, easy-to-clean material, since furniture in this area of the apartment gets dirty most often.
