Benefits of wooden windows: insulation, eco-friendliness, appearance.

Wooden Windows

Windows made of wood are often preferred by Russian people—not just because plastic ones are expensive, but also because many know the advantages of wooden windows. They keep your home warm, fit perfectly into modern interiors, and look great in vintage or rustic styles.

Main advantages of wooden windows:

High strength with low weight, good sound insulation, excellent heat protection, nice appearance, and high frost resistance.

What to look for before buying wooden windows?

The center core of the tree shouldn’t be in the main timber beam. Of course, you won’t cut open a finished window to check it. But a reliable company will show you all stages—from raw timber to the final product. Take a close look at the sample corner section – the wooden profile in cross-section.

You can spot the core by looking for concentric growth rings;

There shouldn’t be any knots or resin pockets in the window frame;
The surface should feel silky smooth, with no paint drips;
In good-quality windows, the glazing bead shouldn't be nailed to the sash, and the hardware must come from a known brand with a proper logo;

A quality wooden window should be painted with premium coatings.

Good wooden windows can’t be cheap. That’s because the raw material is carefully selected and special equipment is used to make them.

Types of wooden windows
Despite many window options, wooden windows are usually divided into two types: with separate sashes where the panes are in different frames, and
with double sashes that are bolted together.

Assembly and use of wooden windows
Installation must follow all construction rules and is usually done by certified professionals using standard methods
for sealing, placing the window unit, fitting sills, slopes, and water drainage.

Repairs and adjustments should only be done by trained experts;

Since wood absorbs moisture, wooden windows must be stored and used in rooms with average humidity, around +18°C, and good ventilation. If that’s not available, use artificial ventilation.

During renovation, never wrap windows in plastic or airtight materials. If the work increases humidity, keep all balcony windows and doors shut—except one, which must stay open for air circulation.
After applying varnish, wait 2–3 weeks for it to fully dry. During this time, avoid water getting on it to prevent white spots. If spots appear, no worries—just reduce humidity and they’ll go away on their own.
Moving parts of the hardware should be lubricated with moisture-resistant technical petroleum jelly at least once a year. Until the window’s warranty ends, the supplier should do this for you.

To keep the surface looking good longer, use a polish made for lacquered wood. Other products can damage the finish. Shake the polish bottle well, apply it with a soft cloth or sponge on a dry surface. Doing this twice a year saves money on later repairs.

Most maintenance is quick and simple, but it helps avoid expensive repairs or full replacement later on.
