Types of sawmills and their applications in industry.

Types of Sawmills

Almost everyone knows that a sawmill is a special machine used for sawing and processing wooden boards and logs. In most cases it is used for longitudinal sawing of material. Companies that produce various types of wood products are also called sawmills. The main function of such enterprises is sawing beams and boards of various diameters and preparing timber for further construction.

There are only three main types of machines used for sawing trees. The most common of them is, of course, the band sawmill, whose cutting tool is a band saw. Entrepreneurs most often install these machines at their facilities because they have many advantages over other types of sawmills. The main advantage of such a machine is that any employee, even a novice, can operate it, since a band sawmill is very simple to handle and maintain. The only thing required is to sharpen the blade and set the teeth when necessary. Another undeniable advantage of this type of equipment is its small and compact size. A band sawmill easily fits into any, even the smallest, premises.

Today the market offers three types of band sawmills: vertical, horizontal, and angled. To ensure that cutting quality remains high, it is necessary to periodically sharpen the blades and set the teeth. The kerf (cut width) of band sawmills is very small — it usually does not exceed 2.5 mm — so almost no sawdust remains after sawing, and for this reason plant owners often prefer sawmills of this type.

There are also frame sawmills, which are mainly used at large enterprises that carry out significant volumes of production. However, they produce much more waste than band sawmills, and operating such a sawmill requires a large amount of energy. Circular disc sawmills allow each log to be processed individually. Enterprises also often use a log-rounding machine, which allows quick and high-quality rounding of logs.
