The road to personal style: how to start building your unique image.
Create Your Look
It's great that today's younger generation is not familiar with the problems their parents faced in youth: where to buy food, clothes, shoes; how to get to know a shopkeeper who would sell these items under the counter; and then how to alter a standard piece so that it differs in some way from the dozens of similar ones on passing pedestrians.
It's hard to believe, but all that existed: shortages, drabness, and uniformity. To stand out from the crowd, the average Soviet person had to make considerable effort.
Today that's all in the past. Ordinary Russians are no longer limited in shopping opportunities or in choices. The main problem is having enough money. But this issue is also addressed through various promotions that stores now run. Seasonal and pre-holiday sales take place in almost every shop and shopping center. Sales also happen when a store is closing, relocating, and so on. So you can practically always find a store offering discounts or a clearance sale.
That means you don't need to rush into buying an item you like if you feel the new purchase will leave a hole in the family budget. Find some free time and visit other shops in Moscow, and you will surely find a similar item at a much lower price.
And if the price issue is resolved, the problem of choice no longer exists. Today you can buy clothing and shoes in almost any style, cut, and color. The main thing is to know clearly what suits you and what doesn't. There's absolutely no need to chase every new trend, considering that almost anything can be fashionable now. One designer may choose retro for a show, another safari, and a third a youthful denim look. You only need to choose a style for yourself.
Clothing stores will offer what you've settled on. Don't be discouraged if the first shop doesn't have the cut you imagine yourself in. Just go into the next one. Or better yet—head straight to a large shopping center with many stores carrying various fashion brands. It's enough to walk one or two floors and you'll have bought everything you need. Not only clothing, but matching shoes and accessories as well.
By the way, accessories deserve special attention. A small addition to your look can make an otherwise ordinary item appear unique on you. After that, you'll definitely not get lost in the crowd.
