Why proportions matter in interior design and achieving harmony
Proportions in Interior Design
Before the room is filled with furniture, the dimensions, style and color scheme should be carefully considered. Otherwise, it may happen that the overall apartment design is disrupted by the mismatch of some furnishing elements.
For interior styles there are requirements that must be observed when developing a design project. Of course, personal tastes play an important role, but rules are rules.
For example, a room with low ceilings cannot accommodate tall furniture, while in rooms with high ceilings it will look excellent. A large bed and a roomy space make a great proportion, and light fixtures mounted at different heights will add a touch of coziness to the setting. Blindly following standards is boring and uninteresting. Sometimes you want to step away from the rules and ignore all prescriptions! Try placing Eastern-style furniture in a living room done in the Victorian style. The setting will instantly lose excessive severity and become more relaxed. Walls will retreat from the foreground, giving way to low Eastern sofas that emphasize the ceiling height. Consequently, large, bulky paintings are no longer needed.
An original interior design will help emphasize the transition from the cool blue-and-white tones to a warm palette.
Large upholstered furniture, if placed along the wall, is perfectly suitable even for a small room, and if you correctly arrange small pieces of furniture, such as a small armchair or an ottoman, you can visually change the perception of the room's proportions without creating a feeling of discomfort.
To get as accurate an idea as possible of the final result of the work, remember a few tips.
To highlight any element, lacquer the floors and make the walls plain and bright.
Small elongated items are an unsuitable choice for large, high rooms;
Furniture painted the same color as the walls resembles built-in furniture. Of course, if the furniture is antique and of collectible value, this is not recommended;
In rooms with low ceilings, low furniture will visually make the ceilings seem higher;
If you want to visually widen the room, use curtains that cover the entire wall;
A couple of tall furniture pieces will fill empty spaces in a room with high ceilings.
Apartment interior design is not cheap. But it's worth it.
