Face scrub guide: skin types, ingredients, exfoliation goals.
How to Choose a Face Scrub
Just about 10 years ago facial scrubs were a novelty in cosmetics, and all that most women could afford for exfoliating the skin was a scrub with pieces of apricot pits. Today facial scrubs exist for every budget and skin type — an intensive scrub for deep exfoliation, a gentle scrub for sensitive skin, a scrub for oily skin, and other products.
A facial scrub is a cosmetic product that contains small particles that remove sebum plugs, eliminate dead skin cells, polish the skin, remove accumulated dirt, and allow the skin to breathe.
On the cosmetics market there are scrubs for the face, hands, feet and body. The most delicate product is the face scrub. A scrub contains a liquid substance that can be gel-like, creamy, emulsion-like, and abrasive particles that perform the role of a deep clean.
For caring for oily skin it is best to use products based on clay, which absorb excess sebum well and draw out comedones. In addition, gel scrubs are suitable for oily skin; they gently cleanse the skin and give it freshness.
For oily skin a face scrub should be used more often than for dry skin. Intensive cleansing can be done 1–2 times a week using an intensive scrub. Moreover, there are scrubs either with a small number of large particles or with a large number of small ones. Such scrubs are suitable for daily use, but should be used very cautiously — to invigorate the skin in the morning, and in the evening to remove makeup that can clog pores.
With inflamed skin, or when there are inflammations and irritations, scrubs must be treated very carefully. Scrub particles can worsen the problem by damaging it. In that case, peels with soft particles, for example oat flakes, are more suitable. Such a scrub not only will not damage the skin; on the contrary, it removes dead skin particles, soothes irritated areas, and leaves the skin pleasant to the touch and velvety.
If a scrub is used frequently on dry skin, it can be injured. At most — once a week, otherwise the skin will begin to flake. It is best to choose a gentle scrub containing oat flakes, or products with dissolving particles that quickly dissolve in water when massaged into the skin and do not harm the skin.
