Water supply for a cottage: sources, filtration, quality checks.
What you need to know about water for a country cottage
Recently people try not to live in the city, but only to work there. Residents of our country increasingly buy homes in the suburbs, choosing private houses to live in. Undoubtedly, your own cottage or small house should have the full range of urban comforts. Certain reasons prevent installing centralized networks for water supply, heating, and sewage. Therefore, most often an individual scheme of the necessary household networks is commissioned. In that case the house heating and its other systems are custom-made, taking all nuances into account.
One of the most important systems is the water supply. Even though we do not live in a desert and the country has enough water, its quality leaves much to be desired. Builders often face the difficult task of ensuring that there is always clean water in the house.
First, it is necessary to determine which method of water extraction is best. All sources can be classified (in ascending order) by their suitability for human use: open bodies of water, groundwater, interstratal unconfined waters (these can be wells or natural springs), artesian waters (they are the cleanest).
Only the first two types of sources are ideally suited for normal water supply. Open bodies of water are highly polluted; the water in them is far from perfect. Groundwater is also not clear; its treatment requires significant financial costs. Moreover, the supply of such water will be unstable.
To determine how suitable the water is for drinking, its compliance with GOST 2874-82 must be checked. In general terms, drinking water should have no unpleasant taste and no pronounced foreign odor. The number of microorganisms in it should not exceed a certain value. The concentration of toxic chemical substances is strictly checked within permissible limits. If you need to find out the water quality, simply contact the local sanitary and epidemiological authorities (SES).
To properly install the water supply system, you need to calculate in advance the required water consumption for potential household needs. The final figure will also depend on the time of year. For example, water consumption increases significantly in summer. In addition, consumption increases during holidays, when many guests often gather out of town. All this must be taken into account when designing the water supply system.
