Migrant labor in construction: benefits, risks, quality and labor market.

Construction work carried out by guest workers: food for thought

Cost has always been an important factor when choosing anything. Nowadays it has become the basis for buying building materials and selecting builders in the Russian Federation. Clients, overlooking the most important factors, mainly focus on price. The roofing materials market could not remain unaffected by this trend.

Undoubtedly, one of the main components of any building is a high-quality roof for a cottage, without which you simply cannot do. When working on a roof you must take into account a large number of technological specifics, since it is a very complex structure. Do you think a guy from a remote village is familiar with the various subtleties of construction if he eagerly takes on cheap, urgent installation of roofs for luxury houses? I wonder if he even knows what a ridge, piles, foam blocks, extra-strong Velux glass skylights and other building materials are. It is believed that laying tile blocks is the easiest job, and such "masters" always try to advise the client to choose that option. Their level of training, despite their enthusiasm, does not give them the ability to do everything properly even when working with that material. It is pointless to talk about cases when licensed roofing work is performed in Zhukovsky using more expensive and rare materials. Although, perhaps it's better not to even think about that...

I can never understand an employer who invites unprofessional workers to install building materials such as bitumen shingles, laminate, or rare flexible shingles. Probably they simply do not realize that they are risking money that is an order of magnitude greater than what they saved on cheap labor. It should be taken into account that even with the best intentions such a "roofer" will not be able to compensate for the losses caused by unprofessional actions, which will cost the property owner several times more than the original certified installation of the roofing system carried out by trained specialists who know their job well.

The desire to minimize costs usually leads many off the right path and they order complex construction work from practically anyone willing. Untrained personnel are often hired for rough work, but in the end the entire building is erected by these workers. When the building is commissioned, it becomes clear that it would have been better to be more responsible in choosing personnel. Almost immediately the rafters sag, joints leak and condensation forms under the roof, blowing away all the money spent and multiplying new expenses for repairs and rectifying mistakes. If you manage to fix these defects with insignificant expense, then you are very lucky.

Drawing the right conclusions from such a situation is, as a rule, far from easy for everyone. I often have to hear requests to eliminate roof leaks, repaint floors, or replace window frames that are unusable in brand-new buildings, and in response to the price I propose for such services I see extremely upset owners who realize they have incurred significant losses. The idea that you should hire cheap labor again and, with small material investments, fix the shortcomings occurs to almost everyone. You cannot stop it. It is a standard pattern of behavior.

People, if you really want to save your money, nerves and energy — turn to qualified craftsmen, look at the work they have already completed, talk to their clients and, based on the information obtained, find a worthy contractor. The result will pleasantly surprise you: for an amount noticeably smaller than the costs of fixing all sorts of "botched jobs", you will get exactly what was required.
