Agricultural Enterprises of Brest Region: District Specialisation
Natural conditions, processing plants and markets create distinct production zones across the region.
Most large farms combine crops and livestock: fields produce grain and fodder, farms supply milk and meat, and processors create a local market. Districts differ in the importance of vegetables, sugar beet, flax, poultry, orchards and pond aquaculture.
The common base
Dairy and beef production form the shared core of most districts. Grain, maize and grasses support livestock as well as commercial crop sales, so crop and animal statistics should be read together.
West, centre and north
Brest, Zhabinka, Kobrin, Kamenets, Pruzhany, Bereza and Ivanovo districts combine livestock with grain, sugar beet, rapeseed and potatoes. The Brest suburban zone has important greenhouse and field vegetables. Around Baranovichi, poultry and food processing are particularly significant, while the northern districts retain mixed dairy, beef and grain profiles.
Polesia
Pinsk, Luninets, Stolin and Drogichin districts operate in a landscape shaped by drainage and water management. Alongside dairy, beef and grain, potatoes and open-field vegetables are important; Stolin is especially associated with vegetable production by farms and households. Major pond fish farms are also concentrated in the region.
